Games Ranking 120709

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from July 9th, 2009, find Wii Sports Resort heading multiplatform sales in North America as a pre-order, while BlazBlue and Tomodachi Collection lead in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Nintendo Wii
North America:
1. Wii Fit (Nintendo),
2. EA Sports Active (EA Sports),
3. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo),
4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 Wii MotionPlus Bundle (EA Sports),
5. Punch-Out!! (Nintendo).

Japan:
1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), 2. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 3. Winning Eleven Play Maker 2009 (Konami), 4. Grand Slam Tennis (EA Sports), 5. Suzumiya Haruhi no Heiretsu -- Chou SOS Danhiro Collection (Sega).

UK:
1. Wii Fit (Nintendo),
2. EA Sports Active (EA Sports),
3. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo),
4. My Fitness Coach (Ubisoft),
5. Wii Play (Nintendo).

As Wii Fit and EA Sports Active continue to fight over the top Wii sales spot in North America, Amazon's charts find that preorders for the upcoming Wii Sports Resort lead domestic software sales across all platforms in both the U.S. and Europe.

Wii Sports Resort is already a big hit in Japan, where it finishes ahead of Wii Fit as the week's biggest-selling Wii title. Winning Eleven Play Maker 2009 follows at third, while the Wii MotionPlus-compatible Grand Slam Tennis takes fourth.

Xbox 360
North America:
1. Prototype (Activision),
2. Gears of War 2 (Microsoft),
3. Tales of Vesperia (Namco Bandai),
4. BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger -- Limited Edition (Aksys),
5. Halo 3 (Microsoft).

Japan:
1. BlazBlue (Arc System Works),
2. BioShock -- Xbox 360 Platinum Collection (Spike),
3. Gears of War -- Xbox 360 Platinum Collection (Microsoft),

2. Prototype (Activision),
3. Fable II (Microsoft),
4. FIFA 09 (EA Sports),
5. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision).

An Amazon "Deal of the Day" sale puts Activision's Prototype at the top of this week's North American Xbox 360 sales chart. Gears of War 2 and Tales of Vesperia find new popularity after recent price drops, while BlazBlue manages a fourth place finish in its first week of release.

BlazBlue has also earned a large following in Japan, taking the region's top sales spot for the week. Budget-priced reissues of BioShock and Gears of War trail at second and third, as Prototype and Mass Effect close out the regional top five.

PlayStation 3
North America:

4. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Activision),

Prototype also leads PlayStation 3 software sales in the United States this week, as InFamous falls to second place. Grand Theft Auto IV and a rereleased Metal Gear Solid 4 follow at third and fourth place, while Ghostbusters takes fifth.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King takes third place this week, while a MadCatz controller-bundled version of Capcom's Street Fighter IV enters the charts at fifth.
